Money grow on trees

Both of you were bugging me to buy this and that, so I said "do you think money grows on trees?" JK said "yes money grows on trees because they are made from paper and metal."

I wonder if it is because earlier on I told him off for wasting many pieces of ah ma's paper and said paper is from trees and he is killing trees.
